چکیده

The metallic phases of meteorites are predominantly composed of Fe with B to 50 wtR Mi. During slow cooling (10-1 to 103°C per million years) be low 500°C three types of phase transformations take place: 1) Fe—Mi mar tensite (m2) decomposition to c2(ferrite) and y(austenite); 2) Decomposition of austenite to a so—called “cloudy border” of a and ; and 3) Partial ordering of 48 to 55 wtR Mi austenite. These transformations have been studied by TEM, SEN and analytical electron microscopy (AME). Orientation relationships between a and ‘ were obtained by microdiffraction and the composition of the a2, a and ‘ phases were determined by x-ray microanalysis in the AEM. Using this combination of techniques insight can be gained into the mechanism of some of the above phase transformations that only occur over geological time and cannot be produced in the laboratory. Conversely, because of the high resolution of AEM, those reactions which can be repro duced in the laboratory within a reasonable time can be studied from their earliest stages.

Low temperature phase transformations in the metallic phases of iron and stony - iron meteorites

Analytical electron microscopY techniques were used to determine the Ni content and structure of kamacite and decomposed taenile (clear taenite I (tetrataenite). the cloudy zone. and clear taenite 2) in the metallic phases of meteorites. Clear taenite 1 contains 51.4—45.6 ± 1.3 wt% Ni and is ordered FeNi with three variants of the L l superstructure. The structure formed by an order/disorder tr...

Structural phase transformations in metallic grain boundaries.

Structural transformations at interfaces are of profound fundamental interest as complex examples of phase transitions in low-dimensional systems. Despite decades of extensive research, no compelling evidence exists for structural transformations in high-angle grain boundaries in elemental systems. Here we show that the critical impediment to observations of such phase transformations in atomis...

Distribution of Germanium in the Metallic Phases of Some Iron Meteorites

Ge distributions in ten iron meteorites with bulk Ge contents of 8.7 to 2000 ppm have been measured by electron probe microanalysis. Ge is concentrated almost entirely in the metallic phases. It was redistributed in the temperature range at which the Widmanstatten pattern developed. Ge content shows a positive correlation with Ni content, reaching a maximum in taenite and a minimum in kamacite ...

Flow Behavior of SP-700 Titanium Alloy During Hot Tensile Deformation in α+β and β Phase Regions

In this paper, in order to study the flow behavior and elongation of as-cast ingots of SP-700 titanium alloy, hot tensile test was done in α/β dual phase and β single phase regions using strain rate of 0.1 s-1. Results showed that the hot tensile behavior of SP-700 in the α/β dual phase region (700-900 ºC) was different from the β single phase one (950-1100 ºC) due to the nature of alpha and be...
